Jiyeon's teaching story began before she even graduated — she started tutoring students at local public libraries while still a student at Centreville High School in northern Virginia. That early passion never left her.
When applying to colleges, Jiyeon earned perfect scores on SAT Math, SAT Writing, and ACT Math — giving her firsthand knowledge of exactly what it takes to reach the top of these exams. It's not theory; she's been there.
She went on to earn a degree in Finance from Carnegie Mellon University and built a career at Capital One — but she never stopped showing up for students. Today she meets with clients after work and every Saturday, because she believes that consistent, caring guidance is what actually moves the needle.
Jiyeon personally built every book club curriculum from the ground up, and has curated a collection of over 60 books across her study plans — each one chosen with intention for its age group.

"Honestly, we'd already tried two other tutors before this. My daughter's math went from a 580 to a 700 over the summer, but what I really appreciated was that Jiyeon would text me after each session with what they worked on. Felt like she actually cared."
"As the founder's sister, I might be biased — but I went through this whole process myself and I can honestly say the tutoring works. Going into junior year I had no idea where to even start with my college list, let alone which schools were actually realistic for me. Working through it together completely changed how I thought about fit and reach. I got into Vanderbilt and I'm a student there now."
"My 3rd grader used to hide her reading log. Now she finishes a Magic Tree House book in two days and asks for the next one. She actually enjoys doing her homework now because she knows she'll get to share her sentences with the new vocabulary words at the next session — she'll sit at the kitchen table sounding them out to herself, very pleased."

Most SAT prep focuses on tricks and shortcuts. Vision Academy builds the underlying math fluency that produces lasting score gains — and makes high school math easier along the way.
Every student starts with a diagnostic to identify exactly where to focus. No cost, no commitment.
Sessions are structured around your student's diagnostic results, targeting the specific question types and concepts causing point loss. We cover the full SAT math curriculum — algebra, advanced math, problem-solving, and data analysis.
Students who complete a full prep program with Vision Academy typically see gains of 100–200 points. Results depend on starting score, time commitment, and test date — we'll give you an honest projection after the diagnostic.
Jiyeon earned perfect scores on SAT Math, SAT Writing, and ACT Math when applying to college. She doesn't just teach the test — she's mastered it.
High school students in grades 9–12 preparing for the digital SAT, especially those targeting competitive colleges or scholarship thresholds.
Weekly sessions (60–90 min). Most students see strong results with 8–16 weeks of consistent prep.
Online via Zoom anywhere, or in-person across Fairfax County and surrounding northern Virginia communities.
College consulting & essays
The college application process is overwhelming — but your student has a compelling story. Vision Academy helps juniors, seniors, and families craft authentic applications that stand out at competitive schools.
A 1-hour call to assess where your student stands, which schools fit, and what a strong application looks like for them.
Vision Academy's college consulting covers every stage of the process — from building a balanced school list in junior year to submitting final applications. Our essay coaching is deep, personal, and focused on authenticity over formulas.
For families who want to get ahead, we offer lighter-touch planning sessions for 9th and 10th graders: building an authentic extracurricular profile, understanding what selective colleges look for, and making smart course choices.
Juniors and seniors applying to competitive colleges, especially those targeting schools where the essay carries real weight.
Start in junior spring for the best results. Summer before senior year is ideal for essay work. We also support students with August–November timelines.
All sessions available via Zoom. In-person consultations available in northern Virginia by appointment.
Book clubs for grades 1–6
Vision Academy's book clubs are small, joyful, and discussion-rich. Students read together, share ideas, and discover that books can be the best kind of adventure — building skills along the way without it feeling like work.
Groups are small (4–6 students) and form by grade range. Ask about current openings and upcoming book selections.
Each book club session is a guided conversation, not a class. Students learn to form opinions, support their thinking with evidence from the text, listen to others' interpretations, and fall in love with stories. The comprehension and vocabulary growth happens naturally.
Jiyeon personally built the book club curriculum from scratch and has assembled a curated collection of over 60 books across all study plans. Selections are chosen to be genuinely compelling for each age group — award-winners, contemporary favorites, and beloved classics. Parents receive the reading schedule so students can read ahead between sessions.
Jiyeon developed every book club curriculum herself — including a personal collection of 60+ books across all grade-level study plans.
Groups are formed for grades 1–2, grades 3–4, and grades 5–6. Each group reads books matched to their reading level and interests.
Weekly or biweekly sessions, 45–60 minutes. Groups meet consistently so friendships and discussion deepen over time.
Book clubs are designed for all readers — from reluctant readers who need a spark to avid readers who want peers to discuss books with.
